Teeth Whitening

As time passes on, our enamel can wear down and allow dentin (the yellow core of our teeth) to shine through. This is one cause of our teeth to turn colors, but besides age, we also can be using or ingesting certain products that also lead to the discoloration of our teeth, such as:

  • Coffee
  • Red wine
  • Soda
  • Tea
  • Tobacco
  • Certain medications

Teeth whitening is no longer just for Hollywood stars or professional models though if you pursue this procedure, it sure can make you feel like one! A variety of at-home toothpaste and kits are available, but none will get you the superior white, vibrant smile you can get only from Dr. Derrick A. Johnston.

Teeth whitening methods:

There are two popular, relatively inexpensive, teeth whitening options to choose from your Noblesville Dentist:

The first, in-office teeth whitening, produces a significant color change in your teeth, usually within an hour's time. The procedure is completed at our Noblesville office by applying a high-concentration peroxide gel on the teeth after they have been protected with a special shield.

The second method involves the use of take-home whitening kits. These whitening kits are purchased from your doctor for use at home. The strength of the gel used in these kits is lower than that used for in-office bleaching, and thus the gel can be applied for longer periods of time. Usually, the trays are worn a couple hours a day or overnight for a few days or weeks depending on the product.
